The top plate of the camera
has a very prominent, yet stylish engraving of HISTORICAL 1975~1995 along with a
Leica logo engraved at the top of the emblem. Another slightly unusual feature was
the location of the Serial Number which was not engraved at the usual position like
many of the special releases which usually locates at the opposite end of the accessory
shoe. |

The companion SUMMICRON-M 1:2/50mm HISTORIC
1975~1995 edition lens for the LEICA M6 HISTORICA e.V Germany edition was a solid,
beautifully finished old time classic lens, Summicron-M 1:2/50mm. Special engraving
can be located at the bottom section of the lens tube. You have to invert the lens
in order to see the engraving.

As a camera, the choice of cobalt blue/turquoise as the leatherwork / body covering on the LEICA HISTORICA
e.V, Germany Edition has projected a very powerful product characteristic on its
own. It is a kind of selection that can be very extreme - either you like or hate
it. And probably this makes this M6 edition so much different from any other special
issues with the same nature. There was no other M6 that has this outfit and whenever
you refer to the blue M6, this is the model. Well, Leica started offering their à
la carte service was only made available
from 2004 onwards and there are many choices in uncommon colour and/or material selections
such as naturally tanned leather, box red calf, Nappa racing green, Dark brown calf
leather, "cognac", Nappa Bordeaux, Blue calf leather, Ostrich look, chestnut
- and even within the common black, you can find options such as Lizard look black,
Ostrich look, black etc. but within the M6 Classic to M6 TTL, the LEICA M6 HISTORICA
e.V Germany Edition remains as the only in this strong presentation.

Personally, I kinda quite like this M6 - not so much
from perspective of whether it will appreciate in its collectible value but more
to satisfy personal desire for its uniqueness. As M6 has been discontinued from normal
course of production and there has never be another Leica M6 which has such a powerful
appearance and with reasonably good objective as a commemorative edition. Its transacted
price in the collectible Leica market has still been maintaining/appreciating at
a steady pace all these years. Via a few auction sales conducted by Christie's to
Leicashop® auctions, this Leica M6 special edition for Leica Historical Society
of Germany issued in conjunction for their 20th Anniversary has grown ranging from
EURO 3,500-00 ~ EURO 5,000-00. Where a few years ago, its price tag was about the
same - except the currency was quoted in USD. hehe ...
In 2001, LHS Germany has released
a LEICA M6TTL Titanium Finish Edition along with few Titanium lenses. In 2005 it
was the 30th Anniversary of the Society and I am not sure if there were any other
commemorative Leica collecibles issued by the German association but one of the entry
photo used on the first page of their site has a silver chrome LEICAVIT-M
that reads "LEICA HISTORICA 1975~2005". Others ? Not sure. Anyone can furnish info on
that ?
