Terengganu is one of the Malaysian States which is
endowed with a wealth of charming and refreshing natural landscapes. She has beaches,
exotic islands, lush virgin tropical jungle, quaint fishing villages, dazzling waterfalls
and many, many more.

Her miles and miles of white, sandy beaches and crystal clear water stretches throughout
its 225 km coastline, extending from Besut in the north to Kemaman in the South.
Her islands are among the most picturesque and fascinating in the country. Its myriad
of colourful pastimes ranges from batik printing and songket weaving to the rapturous
celebration of its many generations of cultural and traditional heritage.

The Cottage industries such as handicrafts which the Malays produce, silk weaving
attracts the most attention. Silk cloth interwoven with gold and silver thread is
called Songket.. Tourists and locals alike are all on the lookout for fine
examples of this painstaking craft. Another major tourists attraction is of course
go turtle watching. Rantau Abang, 56 km south of the state capital, Kuala
Terengganu, on a stretch of beach 32 km long, giant leatheback turtles come back
year after year. The egg laying process is carefully protected by local authorities
now - until 40,000 baby turtles have found their wy back to the sea per year.

The nearby islands host some of the best and hottest diving sites in the far east
region. Many have been gazetted as marine parks and the rich marine life has been
restored since then. Many seasoned divers flocked in from all over the world and
regard these islands as divers' paradise.

With the discovery of oil and gas, which has lured investors in and out of the
country to Terengganu. Multi-national corporations such as Shell, Exxon etc and the
largest local petroleum company, Petronas has immense investment which has helped
and accounted for the State's robust economic growth for the last decade. Today,
Terengganu is one of the top spots for foreign investors in Malaysia in related industries
and has good balance of both advanced industrial and traditional industries such
as fisheries, handicrafts and commodity based industries.

Terengganu's population, which stands at approximately 1.5 million people, consists
of 90 % Malays, with the rest made up of Chinese and Indians. The pace of life, around
Kuala Terengganu, its state capital, and all the towns and villages in Terengganu
is unhurried and unaffected by the hustle and bustle of a big city.
Terengganu's history goes back to as far the first century and has long been an important
area of Malay settlement. Throughout the time up to the present day, Terengganu has
been ruled by 16 Sultans.
